Willmar Hockey Association Coaching Steps

1. Register as a member of USA Hockey @ www.usahockey.com.

2. Send via e-mail the USA Hockey registration confirmation # to Shannon Lindquist (s.lindquist16@gmail.com)

3. Create an account @ usahockey.com.  Go to coach’s tab on the top, then select Coach/Clinic Login on the lefthand side. That will bring up a screen where you can log in or create a Login Profile. You will need to do this  before completing the following steps. All these items will show up in your Coaches Profile as items to complete.

4. Complete the background screening form. https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen

5. Complete the USA Hockey SafeSport Training. This can be found in your coach’s profile on the USA Hockey website.

6. Complete the coaching module online @ www.usahockey.com for the level you will be coaching at (8&under, 12&under and 13&over). If you have already coached at this level ~ you do not have to do this again. You can find these modules via your USAH profile. Plan 8-10 hours per module. You can start & stop the modules; they do not need to be finished in one sitting.

*** THE ABOVE 6 STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU CAN BE PLACED ON A TEAM ROSTER OR BE ON THE BENCH DURING A GAME ***

7. MN Hockey requires all head and assistant coaches to complete concussion training every 2 seasons. If you have completed an age specific module this season or last, you would be considered trained. Any concussion training program is fine as long as a certificate of completion can be printed/emailed to the association. The CDC offers one HERE.

8.Register & attend a coaching clinic, make sure you get registered for a class ASAP, they fill up fast and we would like to have everyone registered for a class by 10/1. This MUST be done to be on the ice and on a team roster. You can find these classes here https://www.usahockey.com/coachingclinics.

9.Coaches obtaining a Level 4 will be valid for 3 seasons, coaches will need to take 5 hours of continuing education to advance the expiration to the next three-year cycle.

CEP INFO

Not sure what CEP level you need, https://cepsearch.usahockey.com/

CEP Clinics are available on the USA Hockey Website. Please note that clinics will be held statewide beginning in September and running through November. Please check back often for newly added clinics.

All youth hockey coaches in Minnesota and the rest of the country are required to attend a series of clinics before they are eligible to coach. The clinics are designed to help coaches provide curriculum and use the proper teaching techniques to insure the proper development of their players.

The clinics are mandated and overseen by USA Hockey qualified instructors with at least a Level 4 certification.  The clinic manuals they use and seminar content presented have been designed by the best hockey coaches and skill acquisition professional in the country. Each level is specific to the age of the players and their needs.

Clinics are offered each year across the state on the weekends beginning in late September and concluding in late December.

An explanation of the required levels is available on this site and at https://www.usahockey.com/rules

USA Hockey offers many certification classes so if you can not attend one of the District 5 classes you can click on link below to find one that works
